Market Data on Plastics and Plastic Products in Central America, compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit at, shows that in 2015 the countries of the region exported 480 thousand tons of plastics and articles made of plastic, with a total value of $1056 million.

Guatemala: Growth in Plastic Scrap Exports

Between January and May, recycled plastic exports generated revenues of $2.2 million.

Jalil de Leon, executive director of the union of plastics companies attached to the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala (CIG), said that the domestic industry is also taking advantage of this market, a sector which reported growth of 12% in terms of the volume of what is recycled and transformed.

Guatemalan Plastic Exports up 14%

After the 2009 crisis, plastic exports reported growth for a second consecutive year.

At the end of 2011 total foreign sales amounted to $241.8 million, up 14% compared to 2010 with exports of $211.2 million.

In terms of the volume of exports, the president of the Plastics Commission at Agexport , Rolando Paiz, indicated they were 8,767 metric tons, 6,122 (7%) more than in the previous year.
