Plastics: Changes in Business Sectors

In the new commercial scenario generated by the covid-19 crisis, some Guatemalan companies in the plastics industry are manufacturing masks, face masks, gloves and special suits for medical use.

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

The activity of the sector has fallen considerably due to the restrictions imposed by the outbreak of covid-19, and it is estimated that in the country only 60% of companies engaged in the manufacture of plastic products are working.

Within the sector, there are two realities, since the companies dedicated to the production of plastic containers for hand soap, antibacterial gel, atomizers that can be used for disinfectant, rigid packaging gallons and blister packs for medicines have increased their activity.

However, the remaining ones have had to change their production line in order to continue generating income.

Marcos Arimany, president of Guatemala's plastics sector, told that "... We have seen several industries here in the country that are migrating their production that could have been dedicated to other products and now are dedicated to the manufacture of health protection products, either masks or masks."

Arimany added that "... there are other companies that are now manufacturing gloves and complete plastic suits for doctors and nurses to use for their protection."
