Plans to build a Walmart for $13 million

Plans are being made to build a 15 thousand square meter supermarket under the Walmart brand in Ciudad Quesada, Alajuela.

Data from CentralAmericaData's Interactive System "Central American Construction Projects" compiled by the Business Intelligence Unit shows that Corporación Supermercados Unidos S.A. submitted an Environmental Impact Study (EIA) in March to build a supermarket under the Walmart format on a 15,257 square meter plot of land in the center of Ciudad Quesada, San Carlos.

The EIA details that a building will be constructed which will have an area of 5,708 square meters.  The supermarket will have parking areas, maneuvering yard and perimeter enclosure. 

A total investment of $12.7 million is estimated, broken down as follows: $6.1 million for the land, $3 million for access, parking and service infrastructure, and $3.6 million for construction costs of the building.
