Plans for the Panama Metro

The pre-feasibility study for the new master network includes estimates of future demand up to 2040, and recommendations on the location of stations for lines 2A, 4 and 5.

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

The study recommends starting with Line 2A, as this would complete Line 2 and would significantly ease the exchange at San Miguelito and Line 1, by giving users the opportunity to head to the city center through Ave. Ricardo corridor. J. Alfaro - Ave. Manuel Espinosa Batista (where it would interconnect with the L1 at the Iglesia del Carmen station) - Ave. Aquilino de la Guardia.

Consultant Nippon Koei Lac-Systra explained that after Line 2A, Line 5 should be given priority, "... starting from the Exhibition district (connecting with Line 1 at Sto.Tomás), connecting to Bella Visa and the entire banking area, along the corridor on Calle 50, with the areas of San Francisco and Parque Lefevre, continuing to Costa del Este and Santa María and connecting to Line 2 in El Crisol."

From a statement issued by Metro de Panama:

The Metro de Panamá, SA (MPSA) was the setting for the presentation of the final report of the pre-feasibility study for the New Master Network, which was carried out with the aim of making a preliminary analysis of the project, with emphasis on lines 2A, 4 and 5, based on demand estimates developed under the TRANUS system (software used to simulate land use and transport), updating the Metro database, in terms of physical, socioeconomic and urban development variables of the different corridors that make up the network.
