Plan to Attract More Cruise Ships

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute has announced an alliance with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, to develop a long-term strategy and encourage the arrival of more cruise ships.

Friday, May 4, 2018

According to the agreement, Costa Rica will receive guidance from the FCCA to establish a National Cruise Strategy that involves the development of Costa Rica as a cruise destination, which includes port infrastructure, tourism operations and security, as well as promoting demand and the understanding of the cruise industry and its operational practices in port cities in order to build cooperative relationships through the development of productive actions with the private and public sectors.

In a statement from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, Michelle Page, president of the FCCA, said that for many years Costa Rica had a poor image in cruise tourism and that put the country at a disadvantage; However, the authorities and the industry in general noticed a staggering change in the business vision, in the coordination between the institutions involved and the participation of the private sector. 'Costa Rica has transformed its image in the cruise industry in the last three years and that new strategic vision of the ICT has paid off, not only in terms of growth of the arrival of cruise ships, but also for the first time, we are providing our support for the creation of a National Cruise Strategy, which will further boost the efforts that have been made in a concrete manner'.
