Together with two Korean companies a Master Road Plan for the country is being developed which foresees the construction and renovation of 4,500 kilometers of roads in the next twenty years.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) with the support of the Republic of Korea, has delivered the results of the final report of the Master Plan for the Road Network in Nicaragua.
The study was carried out by Korean consorcia KOREA EXPRESSWAY and PEC PYUNGHWA.
The event was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Nicaragua Ing. Amadeo Santana and Deputy Director of the Ministry of Land and Infrastructure and Transport of Korea (MOLIT) Jeong Gwon- il.
"... We assembled a mission to the Republic of Korea in which we will learn about the Master Road Plan which is a derivation of the National Transport Plan and the Plan for Human Development, which allows to know where and how to invest in the development of the population in socioeconomic terms " Santana said.

This year the government plans to invest $146 million in improving and expanding the country's road network.
Between 2007 and 2012 the road network and road inventory grew by 17.5%, with the amount of paved surfaces going from 20,333 km2 to 23,897 km2.
"This year, Nicaragua will continue to improve its road network, as, according to the Economic Situation Report for the first quarter of 2014 by the Nicaraguan Foundation for Economic and Social Development, Funides, the main item in the Public Investment Program, PIP, is road infrastructure, especially road improvements by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, MTI. "
This year the Nicaraguan Ministry of Transportation plans to pave 220 new kilometers and perform maintenance on 1,100 kilometers of roads.
Within the work planned is the paving of about 220 km of new roads and the maintenance of 1,100 km of roads and intercity streets, said the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, José Amadeo Santana.
$16 million will be invested in rehabilitating 32.5 kilometers; the improved road will benefit producers in the north of the country.
“The road is crucial for the zone, because it is one of the most used to transport coffee production; around 800.000 quintals travel through it every year”, stated Amadeo Santana, from the Infrastructure Ministry.
