Pineapple: Regional Sales Up

For the third quarter of 2021, the value of sales in the Central American region reached $825 million, with the main buyer being the United States of America with $427 million, representing 52% of exports.

Regional Business Variation
Between January-September 2020 and the same period in 2021, the exported volume of pineapple registered a slight increase of 1%, going from 1,627,762 metric tons to 1,640,251 metric tons.

Costa Rica, Main Seller
In the third quarter of 2021, the leading exporter of pineapple in Central America continued to be by far Costa Rica, with $1,473.9 million, followed by Honduras with $58.2 million, Guatemala with $18.9 million, Panama with $9.7 million.

Only Nicaragua and El Salvador reported no foreign sales.

Main Buyers
From January to September 2021, 52% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the U.S., 9% for the Netherlands, 8% for Belgium, 7% for Spain and Italy, and 6% for the United Kingdom.

Export Prices
Between January 2012 and September 2021, the average price per kilo of pineapple exports by countries in the region ranged between $0.44 and $0.50.

During the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 22 % was observed, reaching $640 million in exports of fresh, refrigerated and frozen beef, however, in volume it only represented a 2 percent increase, reaching 125,448 tons.

Pineapple: More business with UK

January 2020

In the first six months of 2019, Central American countries exported pineapple for $525 million, and sales to companies in the United Kingdom grew by 5% over the same period in 2018.
