Pineapple: More business with UK

In the first six months of 2019, Central American countries exported pineapple for $525 million, and sales to companies in the United Kingdom grew by 5% over the same period in 2018.

Regional Business Variation
Between January and June 2018 and the same period in 2019, the volume of pineapple exports recorded a 9% decrease, dropping from 1.32 million tons to 1.21 million tons.

For the periods in question, the value exported to the United Kingdom increased, in this case the rise was 5% from $32 million in 2018 to $34 million in 2019.

Costa Rica, Top Seller
In the first half of 2019, the main exporter of pineapple in Central America continued to be by far Costa Rica, with $501 million, followed by Honduras, with $16 million, Guatemala, with $6 million, Panama, with $5 million, and Nicaragua and El Salvador reported no significant sales abroad.

Main Buyers

From January to June 2019, 49% of the value exported from Central America was to the USA, 15% to the Netherlands, 7% to Italy, 7% to Spain and 6% to the UK.

Price of Exports
Between January 2012 and September 2018, the average price per kilo of pineapple exports by countries in the region ranged from $0.39 to $0.47.

Pineapple: Central American Exports Up 18%

August 2018

In the first quarter of the year, countries in the region exported $261 million worth of pineapples, 18% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly explained by sales to the United States and the Netherlands.
