In the first six months of the year, imports of pharmaceutical products in Central America totaled $1.717 million, 8% more than in the same period in 2018.

Costa Rican Companies: Main Buyers

From January to June 2019, the main purchaser of pharmaceutical products in Central America was Costa Rica, with $406 million, followed by Panama, with $344 million, Guatemala, with $319 million, Honduras, with $251 million, El Salvador, with $227 million and Nicaragua, with $173 million.

Regional Business Upwards
Between the first half of 2018 and the same period of 2019, the value imported of pharmaceutical products in Central America registered a positive variation, since it rose from $1.587 million to $1.717 billion.

U.S. and Germany: Top Suppliers
Between January and June 2019, 10% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 9% from Germany, 9% from Mexico, 6% from India and 5% from France.

Germany is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the first six months of the last eight years, as in 2012 represented 4% of the total value purchased, and by 2019 rose to 9%.

Insulin in Central America: Imports up 39%

In the first nine months of 2018 in Central America, imports of pharmaceutical products with insulin totaled $23 million, 39% more than the same period in 2017.
