Pharmaceuticals: Purchases from Mexico up 9%

Between January and September 2018, imports of pharmaceutical products by Central American countries from Mexico totaled $231 million, 9% more than in the same period in 2017.

Imports by country
From January to September of this year, the main pharmaceutical buyer to Mexico continued to be Panama, with $122 million, followed by Guatemala, with $36 million, Costa Rica, with $29 million, El Salvador, with $20 million, Honduras, with $13 million, and Nicaragua, with $11 million.

In the first nine months of 2018 companies in Panama and Guatemala, concentrated 66% of Central American purchases from Mexico.

Variation in regional imports
Between the first nine months of 2017 and the same period in 2018, imported value increased 8%, from $212 million to $231 million.

The increase for the months concerned contrasts with the behavior reported in the same period of 2017, since from January to September last year recorded a year-on-year decline of 6%.
