Last year, imports of pharmaceutical products made by companies in Central America totaled $3.292 million, 4% more than reported in 2017.

Costa Rican Companies: Main Buyers
During 2018, the main purchaser of pharmaceutical products in Central America was Costa Rica, with $777 million, followed by Guatemala, with $656 million, Panama, with $620 million, Honduras, with $500 million, Nicaragua, with $375 million and El Salvador, with $364 million.

Regional Business Upwards
Between 2017 and 2018, the value of imports of pharmaceutical products in Central America registered a positive variation, since it rose from $3,171 million to $3,292 million.

This increase in purchases is in addition to the positive variations reported in previous years, since imports have increased steadily since 2015.

U.S. and Mexico: Main Suppliers
In 2018, 9% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 9% from Mexico, 8% from Germany, 4% from India and 5% from Switzerland.

Germany is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the last seven years, since in 2012 represented 4% of the total value purchased, and by 2018 rose to 8%.
