Pharmaceuticals: More Business with Mexico

From January to March 2020, purchases of pharmaceutical products made by Central American countries from companies in Mexico totaled $73 million, 2% more than reported in the same period in 2019.

Panama, main buyer
During the first quarter of 2020, the main buyer of pharmaceutical products from Mexico continued to be Panama, with $34 million, followed by Guatemala with $15 million, Costa Rica with $9 million, El Salvador with $6 million, Honduras with $5 million and Nicaragua with $4 million.

In the first three months of 2020, companies in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, an area known as the Southern Triangle of the region, concentrated 65% of Central American purchases from Mexico.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between the first three months of 2019 and the same period in 2020, the value imported registered a 2% increase, from $71 million to $73 million.

The increase for the months in question complements the behavior reported in the same period of 2019, since from January to March of that year an annual increase of 12% was recorded.
