Peru Exports Organic Bananas to the US

All of the production from 2015 produced by the union of organic banana growers will be exported to the United States.

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

From a statement issued by the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Office (Procomer):

The Piurana Central Association of Small Producers of Organic Banana of Peru (CEPIBO) has decided to send its entire production from 2015 to US suppliers, because they offer a better price for the fruit.

Rufino León, project coordinator of the NGO Progreso and CEPIBO advisor said that in 2013, Peru exported 474 containers to the European Union and 42 to the US, a figure that changed in 2014, reaching 397 for the first region and 42 for the second. However, the Andean country has decided that this time 100% will be exported to North America; a decision that may be a bit radical, but nevertheless, is backed by a strong argument.

Dominican Bananas in the United States

August 2018

Although traditionally banana exporters from the Dominican Republic have focused on European countries, overproduction of the fruit is forcing them to look for opportunities in the US market.

From a report by Procomer:

For years banana exports from the Dominican Republic have concentrated on the European market, however, the situation occurring in local banana farming, with an overproduction that has found no outlet abroad, makes it clear that the sector needs to work quickly in order to break through to the North American market and stop relying exclusively on Europe.
