Paraguayan Meat in Panama

The arrival of the first 5000 tons of beef from the South American country is expected on november 2015.

The business group Fortunato Mangravita plans to import at least 5000 tons per year, starting later this year.

Critica.com.pa reports that "... the general manager of the group, Ricardo Mangravita told the Paraguayan newspaper ABC that" It's just a matter of paperwork to start importing beef from Paraguay. This has been managed with a very impressive harmony which I never thought would be done so fast. You can see the desire and the will of the Paraguayan Government to make this come about."

"... Fortunato Mangravita SA is the most important company that Panama has in the field of meat processing, the second largest plant in the region after Brazil, with more than 6,500 square meters of factory for production of hamburgers for McDonald's and other international and local franchises."

Negotiations are taking place with companies in Argentina and Paraguay to import beef and supply the local market, which would increase supply and help push prices down.

Representatives from the Ministry of Economy (Mineco) reported that they have already initiated first contacts with companies and authorities of the two South American countries, and that they are waiting for accreditation to show that cattle coming from these markets are free of diseases.

Panama Tries Out Uruguayan Meat

The supermarket chain Super Carnes bought the first contingent of eight tonnes to the Solis refrigerating company, one of the nine authorized to sell the meat in Panama.

The first contingent of beef imported from the South American country has entered the country, after permission was gained to sell the meat in Panama in April 2015.

Paraguay Wants to Export Meat to Central America

Paraguayan exporters have requested health permits to sell meat to Panama, from where they plan to redistribute it to other countries in the region.

Currently a sanitation mission from Panama is inspecting the health system and industrial facilities in Paraguay, which has the advantage of having authorization to export to the European Union.
