Variation in regional imports
Between January and September 2017 and the same period in 2018, the volume imported of paper and cardboard recorded a decrease, falling from 1.67 million tones to 1.56 million tones.

In contrast to the behavior of the volume, for the periods in question the imported value registered a 2% increase, rising from $1,771 million in 2017 to $1,806 million in 2018.

Costa Rican companies, main buyers
In the first nine months of the year, the main buyer of paper and cardboard in Central America was Costa Rica with $517 million, followed by Guatemala with $403 million, Honduras with $294 million, El Salvador with $217 million, Panama with $162 million and Nicaragua with $83 million.

Origin of Imports
From January to September 2018, 41% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 9% from Mexico, 4% from China and 2% from Brazil.
