During the first six months of 2019, imports of paper and cardboard in Central America totaled $1.131 million, and purchases from companies in Germany increased 25% over the same period in 2018.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between the first semester of 2018 and the same period of 2019, the volume imported of paper and cardboard registered a decrease, falling from 1.11 million tons to 983 thousand tons.

For the periods concerned, the value imported decreased 10%, from $1.262 million to $1.131 million.

In contrast to general behavior, purchases from companies in Germany grew 25%, from $15 million in 2018 to $19 million in 2019.

Costa Rican Companies, Main Buyers
From January to June 2019, the main buyer of paper and cardboard in Central America was Costa Rica with $348 million, followed by Guatemala with $282 million, Honduras with $193 million, El Salvador with $155 million, Panama with $107 million and Nicaragua with $51 million.

Origin of Imports
During the first half of the year, 37% of the value imported from Central America came from the U.S., 9% from Mexico, 5% from China and 3% from Brazil.
