Papaya Market in the Netherlands

Importers buy directly in producing countries and occasionally provide services of relabeling, washing, packing, transporting and carrying out import formalities.

From a statement issued by PROCOMER:

The largest importer of papaya in Europe is Germany, however, Holland works as a commercial hub and distribution of fresh fruits, and is the main re exporter of this product to other countries in the region, mainly to Germany, the UK and Sweden.

Given the increased consumption of papaya in the Netherlands, the main distribution channels and consumer trends in this market are indicated. 

Distribution channels:

  • Agents: are responsible for connecting the supplier with the foreign importer, strengthening the product to meet the volume required by the customer and shipping it prior to payment of their commission, they usually ask the producer for exclusivity.

Panamanian Watermelon in the Netherlands

The Association of Producers of Watermelon for Export announced the signing of a contract with the logistics company CH Robinson to export 20 containers of the fruit to the European country.

The deal with the Dutch company was finalised within the framework of the FruitLogística trade fair in Germany, where agro-export companies from Panama and other countries in the region took part.

USA Consuming More Papaya

In 2014 papaya imports increased by 15% compared to 2013, maintaining the upward trend seen since 2011 and reflecting the increased consumption of the fruit in the country.

US consumers, according to new food trends, are reacting positively to the attributes of fruits such as papaya, since it has a high content of vitamins and nutrients needed to stay healthy.

Panama: Canadians Interested in Papaya and Tubers

Attracted by the benefits of the Canada-Panama FTA, Canadian businessmen have visited producers in the provinces of Cocle and Los Santos.

According to Johnnie Sbrocci, from the company C.O.D. Fresh, their visit is due to the great potential of Panamanian culture and they are evaluating whether to export papaya and some tubers next year.
