Panama to Host SWIFT Congress

Banking technology experts from A.L. analyze the latest advances in the system for sharing financial information between banks.

During the forum, experts will tackle, among other topics, the opportunities for Latin American banks with respect to remittances.

The president of the organization in Panama, Harmodio Quintero, informed “…during the congress different topics related to the latest banking solutions will be analyzed. The benefits that this system has to offer to the business sector will also be discussed.”

Latin American Congress on Free Zones

From September 27 to 29 Costa Rica will be hosting an event which brings together representatives from companies and free zones in Latin America and other continents.

The Association of Free Zones of the Americas will be holding the XX Conference on Free Zones of the Americas, a space which will bring together representatives from the most important countries and free zones in Latin America, to discuss and exchange experiences and knowledge.

Congress on Credit Cards in Panama

From July 6th through 8th, experts from the financial industry will analyze the process of migration from traditional plastic to cards made with a chip.

The SmartCard Alliance Latin America (SCALA) will hold "C4 – Latin America/SCALA Annual Conference" in Panama City. There will be 30 exhibitors and 150 people related to the international financial industry participating in the event.

Panama: 23% Increase in Interbank Transactions

In 2008, interbank transactions with foriegn entities through the S.W.I.F.T increased by 23.7%.

Harmodio Quintero, Director of the Panamanian chapter of SWIFT said that in 2008 the transactions made at Banks located in Panama represented 5% of all transactions made through this system in Latin America.
