Panama to Import 40,000 Hundredweight of Onions

The timeframe for carrying out imports due to shortages will be from December 1 to January 31, 2018.

The Panamanian government has decreed a shortage of onions and authorized the import of 40 thousand hundredweight.

According to the decree published in La Gaceta, the tariff contingent will incur a Customs Duty of Importation (DAI) of 15%.

Nicaragua Still Importing Onions

The government has authorized the purchase of 20,000 pounds of yellow onions to reduce the price in the local market while the product remains scarce.

The authorization came from Orlando Solorzano, Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce, who said traders and producers of yellow onion agree with the policy, because the perishable product has risen in price in the country's markets.

Nicaragua to import 48,000 Hundredweight of Onions

June 2015

After negotiating with local producers and importers, the government has authorized the purchase abroad of 48,800 hundredweight of onions during the second half of the year.

Official sources say that the country produces 440,000 hundredweight of onions every year, a production level that in Nicaragua covers 90% of domestic demand, therefore there is a need to cover the remaining 10%.
