Panama hosts meeting of the International Commission of Tropical Tuna

Panama's capital city will be the site of the 78th meeting of the International Commission of Tropical Tuna, June 23-27.

The meetings will deal with themes such as promoting the "dolphin safe" certification, tuna migration routs and similar items.
It will also consider regional registry of ships and the need for all fishing boats to be on it.

Tuna Quota in Costa Rica Put on Hold

The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission has announced that the response to the request to increase the tonnage of fishing in the Eastern Pacific will be given in October.

Noting a lack of sufficient information and studies to determine more clearly the potential impact of increasing the quota, the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) said it will postpone the decision until October.

The region believes it is important to bring to the Annual Meeting of the IATTC an agenda regarding the responsible use of marine resources and sustainable operations which benefit the fishing resource.
