Panama and the Council of the Americas

For the second consecutive year in Panama the Latin American conference of the Council of the Americas was held, this year subtitled "Panama: Where the World Meets."

The Council of the Americas is a private U.S. organization, composed of large international corporations with interests in the region, and who are mediators seeking greater cooperation and economic integration in the continent.

During the meeting the perspectives of international private sector relating to Panama as a logistical and commercial hub was analyzed, with the involvement of the following people.

On 22nd and 23rd of August entrepreneurs from 10 American countries related to activity of free zones will be meeting in Panama.

Representatives from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Uruguay, the USA, Paraguay, Brazil, Ecuador, Argentina and Panama, will be taking part in the event organized by the Association of Users of the Colon Free Zone (AU).

Costa Rica: Building Capacity for Global Leadership

Government, business and international experts will discuss how to get the country to boost local capacity and take advantage of the opportunities of the global economy.

On June 30th, the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, together with the World Bank and the Government of Costa Rica will host its first Latin American Cities Conference in Costa Rica.

$150 Million for Panama

July 2009

The World Bank funds were granted for the current fiscal year, from July 30 to June 2010.

"Panama is an important partner. We reiterate our support to its government's agenda and our commitment to analyze cooperation opportunities in the future" said Pamela Cox, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, who met with Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli and his Economy and Finance Minister, Alberto Vallarino.
