Panama - Spain Agreement on Information Technology

A memorandum of understanding has been signed for the development of the Information Society and the modernization of public administration in the Republic of Panama.

From a press release published by Red.es in Spain:

The CEO of Red.es, Borja Adsuara and general manager of the National Authority for Government Innovation in the Republic of Panama (AIG), Eduardo Jaen, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of the Information Society and modernization of public administration in the Republic of Panama.

Both administrations have expressed, through the signed memorandum, their interest in exchanging information and exploring methods of mutual cooperation in different areas. Among the areas in which collaboration will be established, including the development of the digital economy, is a Digital Agenda for Latin America and joint actions to improve service delivery to citizens, through the efficient use of Information Technology and Communication Technologies (ICT).

During the past few years, mobile telephony has grown rapidly and is likely to exceed 100 per cent penetration in most countries in the near future. It is notable that no other region has such a strong presence of strategic investors, which account for three out of every four mobile subscriptions in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Americas region also stands out in terms of VoIP traffic, which has been growing steeply in Central and South America.
