Panama: $100 million for Modernization of Sewers

With a loan from the Development Bank of Latin America, the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers will make improvements to the sanitation system in four provinces.

The resources will be used to improve drinking water and basic sanitation in the provinces of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí, Veraguas and Panama and the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers will execute the project.

"Among the major works that will funded by the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) are the expansion and improvement of the sanitary sewer system in Puerto Armuelles, the modernization of the raw water intake and adduction line in Chorro Blanco; in Veraguas a collection system and wastewater treatment for waters from Santiago will be developed, in Bocas del Toro work will be done on the sewer system and water treatment plant at Almirante and the water treatment plant at Isla Colon will be expanded, and - finally - in the province of Panama collectors for San Francisco, Coco del Mar and Via Israel will be built."

The Aqueducts and Sewers Institute will improve its treatment plant in Santiago, Veraguas.

Works Include enabling the sewer system in the capital of Veraguas and in Sná, in the south of the province.

In a press release, the Institute informed they will also install storage tanks and pumping stations.
