Panama: Use of Liquefied Gas Drops by 10%

The need to incorporate a sophisticated and expensive kit in new vehicles so they can use Liquefied Gas is one of the reasons.

The price of the kit varies between $800 and $1,400 depending on the technology. It costs $800 for a four cylinder vehicle.

The price of LPG has always been lower than gasoline. In February, the price of a gallon of 95-octane gasoline was $2.47, the cost of 91-octane gasoline was $2.24 and it was $1.70 for LPG, 35% less.

Erick Guerrero, general manager of Autogas Ecological Fuels, told Panamá América: "Now the LPG trend is toward the corporate market. Companies such as Copa, Cable Onda and the National Brewery use this fuel."

Panama: Fuel Consumption Up 4%

In 2016 total consumption increased by 4% compared to 2015, mainly explained by an 18% increase in consumption of 95 octane gasoline and 12% in bunker C.

Total consumption of gasoline, diesel, bunker C, liquefied petroleum gas and other fuels rose by 4% in 2016 compared to the previous year. In the case of gasoline, the highest increase was recorded in 95 octane, which increased by 18.5%, while consumption of regular gasoline or 91 octane fell by 3.6%.

The Comptroller General of the Republic revealed that in 2013 245,000 gallons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG ) have been sold, while in 2009, 599,000 were sold, in other words sales of the product fell by 59%.

Despite increasingly high prices in the first half of 2012 Panamanians consumed 7.6% more fuel compared to the same period last year.

An article in reports that "Between January and July 2012, 135,692,000 gallons of gasoline were sold, which represents an increase of 7.6% compared to the same period last year, when 126,054,000 gallons were consumed.
