Panama: Two Companies Bid for Designing Public Marketplaces

Just two companies, Mercasa and CAU AH Domar, submitted bids for designing eight public marketplaces.

These marketplaces are part of a larger Cold Chain project, sponsored by President Martinelli’s administration.

Construction of Higher Institute of Agriculture Announced

The government has announced that the institution will have the capacity to accommodate a thousand students on courses related to the agricultural sector.

From a statement issued by the Presidency of Panama:

The President, Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez, announced on Thursday the creation of a trust for the Higher Institute of Agriculture, in order to raise teaching there as part of a government policy to support the agricultural sector within the framework of the National Pact for Agriculture.

Panama Awards Marketplaces Design Contract

Spanish company Mercsa will study, design and provide technical assistance for the construction for 8 public marketplaces.

An important component of the Cold Chain Project, these marketplaces will be located in David, Colón, Santiago, Penonomé, Chitré, Las Tablas, Panamá and Chorrera.

Panama: 6 Companies Interested in Designing 8 Marketplaces

Six companies participated in a preliminary meeting to bid for designing six public marketplaces.

Delegates from “Cau Arquitectos”, “Asociación de Consultores de Aguas Calientes”, ”Mercasa, F.G”. “Guardia”, “Berotz” and ” Berotz-Panamá“ answered the invitation of the Cold Chain Secretary.

Panama: Cold Chain Could Start in September

The start of the project, which seeks to reduce the loss of perishable goods, has been delayed due to the lack of statistics from the agriculture industry.

Authorities are currently developing the list of products which would be included in the project, and they expect to invite bids on September.
