Panama: Tourist Spending Up 4% in 2017

In 2017, the country received 2.5 million tourists who spent $4.451 billion, 3.8% more than in 2016.

According to preliminary figures from the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP), in 2016, tourists spent $4.287 billion, $164 million less than the amount generated last year.

Regarding spending by tourists arriving on cruise ships, the ATP reported that " ... cruise passengers spend approximately $150 during their stay in the country, on food consumption, transportation and purchases, which shows that Panama is maintaining its hegemony in the region as a shopping tourism center."

A statement issued by the ATP details that most of the spending done by tourists in the country corresponds to " ... lodging, purchases in stores and shopping centers, food, internal transportation, entertainment, and excursions to historical tourist sites within and outside the capital city."

Tourism: Revenue up 16% in 2019

Salvadoran authorities estimate that the income left by tourists who visited the country last year reached $1.777 billion, 16% more than that registered in 2018.

Estimates made by the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) indicate that between 2018 and 2019 the number of tourists visiting El Salvador increased by nearly 4% from 2.5 million to 2.6 million.

Tourism in Panama: Revenues Up 3% in 2018

Last year, 2,48 million tourists arrived in the country, spending $4.605 million, 3.3% more than in 2017.

Figures from the Statistics Department of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP), specify that the average time a tourist stays in the country is approximately 8 days and spends on average a total of $1,856, which is equivalent to $232 per day, expenses include accommodation, shopping, food, internal transportation, entertainment, visits to historic tourist sites within and outside the capital city.

Guatemala: Tourism Figures Improve

January 2018

It has been estimated that 2017 closed with the arrival of 2.1 million visitors to the country, 11% more than in the previous year, and foreign currency generated of more than $1.2 billion.

The Guatemalan Tourism Institute also stressed that this is the best cruise season in the history of the country, which will see 122 dockings.
