Panama: Tourist Quality Certification

As soon as the new tourism quality standards are published in the Official Gazette, companies will be able to obtain certification.

Thirty companies involved in the sector will participate in a pilot program that will run for nine months.

By next month the first rules, aimed at the hotel, guides and tour operator sectors, will be published.

"Next year guidelines will be worked on that will be applied to restaurants and the transport sector", published Prensa.com.

Panama has become the first country in the region to have a tourism certification.

International Conference on Quality

The event will be held on August 25th and 26th in Guatemala City and will deal with issues related to quality systems and accessing markets with GlobalGAP certifications.

Nicaragua: Preparation of Global G.A.P. Guide for Cattle

The union of producers and exporters estimates the manual for interpretation of the rules for cattle and sheep will be ready in November this year.

From a statement issued by the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN):

The Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN) will start preparing, on 10 July, the guide for interpretation of the rules for cattle and sheep, known as Globalgap, said Azucena Castillo, general manager of the association. "We have set a meeting to begin work on developing guidance for the interpretation of the standard for cattle and sheep. In this meeting we will introduce the topic and explain the procedure established by Globalgap" Castillo said.

Guatemala: Tourism Quality Seal

The Guatemalan Tourism Institute has launched the quality label "Q" with which companies will be certified on factors such as business management and customer service.

The tourism quality label will be implemented within three to six months, and seeks to help tourists differentiate quality among its competitors, improve product image and the level of customer satisfaction by continued compliance with quality standards.

Beginning this year, companies can voluntarily participate in the certification system for tourist services.

The Government, the private sector and Spanish consultant company Applus are working in quality standards which will be imposed on companies in order to achieve certification. Thirty companies are participating in the pilot plan.
