Panama Tenders a Fourth Bridge at the Canal

President Ricardo Martinelli announced he will support the construction of a fourth bridge over the Panama Canal.

The president said he will soon launch a tender for the construction of the project.

"The construction of a fourth bridge would go along with the decision to demolish the Bridge of the Americas," said president Martinelli, as reported by Pa-digital.com.pa.

The Ministry for Public Works has announced that they will soon be putting out for tender the construction of a new bridge over the Panama Canal.

In an article by Getzalle Reyes in Prensa.com the Minister for Public Works, Federico Suarez, said that "the ideal position is to connect it to the bridge of the Americas.

Panama to Invite Tenders for New Canal Bridge

In the coming three months an invitation to tender will be issued for a $300 million project to construct a new bridge over the Panama Canal.

The announcement was made by Panamanian Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Juan Carlos Varela, who added that the bridge will be built on Panama's Atlantic side and will improve connections between a region of Colón province and Panama City.

Bridge Over Canal Would Cost $ 280 Million

The Panama Canal Authority has already contracted the bridge design and by February 2012 it expects to announce the tender for its construction.

The vice president of Program Management of the ACP, Jorge Luis Quijano, said it would be the same authorities awarding the construction in June or July of 2012.
