Panama: Tender for Patient Transport for $6.7 million

The Ministry of Health in Panama is putting out to tender Aeromedical Evacuation transfers of patients in serious conditions, in rural and hard to reach areas.

The purpose of the tender is to contract:

AEROMEDICAL TRANSFERS FOR AIR EVACUATION OF PATIENTS IN DELICATE AND SERIOUS CONDITIONS IN RURAL AREAS AND DIFFICULT TO ACCESS AREAS AND ON INTERHOSPITAL ROUTES NATIONWIDE.

The scheduled date for opening of bids is May 9, 2013.

Panama: Ambulance Tender Canceled

In Panama private companies and government control institutions have identified irregularities in the tender process which is worth over $30 million.

The Panamanian Health Ministry has canceled the tender for 163 ambulances, worth close to $33 million.

On May 7th PanamáCompra published details of the tender for the purchase of 163 ambulances under a turnkey project, at a cost of $33 million, a tender which caused upset to local companies who complained that the process was a "custom fit."

The first private ambulance company emerged 17 years ago. Today, some 20 private companies offer the service, which compete on price, coverage and type of plans.
