Panama Registers More Tourism Companies

In 2017, 42 operating licenses were authorized for tour operators and travel agencies, and 75 hotels throughout the country also began operations.

Among the licenses processed, 41 are type A (tour operators) and one type B (travel agencies).  The province of Panama reflected the highest registry with 24 licenses, and the province of Chiriqui with 8. 

From a statement issued by the Tourism Authority of Panama:

The Directorate of Tourism Investments at the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) issued 42 operating licenses for travel agencies and tour operators last year.
 
Among the licenses processed 41 are type A (tour operators) and 1 type B (travel agencies). The province of Panama reflected the highest registry with 24 and the province of Chiriquí with 8. With these new companies, the number of businesses dedicated to these activities has increased to 333 (319 type A and 14 type B).

Tourism: Chinese Business Leaders Arrive in Panama

To learn about the tourist destination and hold business negotiations with local businesses, on September 13, 10 tour operators from Beijing will be arriving in Panama.

The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) reported that " ...this will be the first official contact with local tour operators, following authorization from the Chinese government to start commercial relations with 66 Panamanian A-type companies (tour operators) who met the requirements established after signing a Memorandum of Understanding between both nations to facilitate travel groups from China to Panama."

Interest in Bringing In Chinese Tourists

Fifty seven travel agencies and Panamanian tour operators submitted their applications to the ATP to be included in a list of companies authorized to do business in China.

The requests that were received by the Tourism Authority were sent to the Panamanian Foreign Ministry, so that these in turn can be sent to the Chinese authorities. This means that all that remains is for the Asian country to grant approval so that these tourism businesses can start to negotiate with Chinese wholesalers.

March 2018

In order to facilitate business in the sector, the Tourism Authority now publishes on its website a list of agencies, lodgings and tour operators operating in the country.

From a statement issued by the Tourism Authority of Panama: 

Starting from Monday foreign tourists and nationals will be able to consult a list of tourism companies nationwide who are registered with the Tourism Authority of Panama by searching in the information tab of the entity's website.

In coordination with the guild of private companies the Tourism Authority of Panama has announced the beggining of the international campaign "Vive Panamá".

At a meeting between government officials and companies in the sector strategies and development plans for the tourism industry in the medium term were reviewed.
