Panama: Progress in Sanitation Project

The Cabinet Council has approved the allocation of $3.5 million for the acquisition of land where the wastewater treatment plant will be built in Panama Arraiján and La Chorrera.

Crhoy.com explains that "...With the acquisition of this piece of land measuring 32 hectares and 1,278 meters, the investment made by the Sanitation Program for the construction of more than 700 kilometers of sanitary sewerage networks, 120 kilometers of collectors and 7 pumping stations is increased.

This agreement, which will be made between the Ministry of Economy and Finance on behalf of the Nation and Lavery Agroindustrial, S.A., guarantees the construction of the treatment plant that will benefit a population of more than 315 thousand inhabitants and will be located in El Tecal, near the mouth of the Caimito River."

Using a loan from the Andean Development Corporation a wastewater collection system and treatment plant will be built in the districts of Burunga and Arraijan Cabecera.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance in Panama:

A bill regarding a $95 million loan agreement was approved by the National Economic Council (CENA) enabling the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to sign with the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) a loan for the construction of a sewage collection system and treatment plant in the districts of Burunga and Arraijan Cabecera.

Panama: $150 million More for Sanitation Works

With the approval of a $150 million IDB loan the financing for Phase I of the sanitation project of the bay in Arraiján and La Chorrera in Panama West now amounts to $553 million.

Three business groups submitted proposals to build and operate for ten years the second module of the wastewater treatment plant in the city of Panama.

The three groups who submitted technical and financial proposals were: the consortium Acciona PTAR Juan Diaz, the consortium Suez, which is part of the construction company Odebrecht , and OTV CQV - Meco.

Guatemala: $4.38 Million for Sanitation Infrastructure

The funds will go toward a project to build a sewage collection and drainage system in Antigua, Guatemala.

The town’s governor, Marvin Barrios, commented that, “this is a priority project and must be carried out as soon as possible for the benefit of the population of Antigua. We will work to ensure it is managed flexibly, to a high standard and transparently”.
