Panama: Agreement for 350 MW of Thermal Energy

The Chinese consortium Martano Inc. has been awarded a contract to supply 350 MW of thermal energy, for which it will build a plant in Margarita Island, province of Colon.

The winner is one of the fourteen companies who presented their proposals to supply power to the electricity distribution companies Ensa, Edemet and Edechi during the period from January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2033.

Monopolistic Practices in the Electricity Market Denounced

In Panama two companies who took part in the tender for 350 MW announced that they will appeal to the Supreme Court to denounce alleged monopolistic practices by AES, the entity which won the tender.

The companies Panamá Power Corp (IPPCO) and Pentacles Energy S.A. have turned to the Supreme Court after not receiving answers from the Electricity Transmission Company (ETESA) and the National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) after having submitted an application for consideration.

Panama: Appeal Against Award of Contract for 350 MW

Arguing concentration of demand in light of the award to AES Corporation. three of the 27 companies that participated in the tender have filed motions for reconsideration.

The main argument behind the appeals for reconsideration filed by Pentacles Energy, SA, Gator Partners Latam and International Panamá Power Corp.., is the market concentration that AES Corporation will have after starting to supply power from 2018.

Panama: License for 125 MW Thermal Plant

June 2015

The company Kanan III Overseas Inc., has been granted a provisional license to build and operate a thermal power generation plant in the district of Arraijan, Panama Province.

FIRST: AWARD to the company KANAN OVERSEAS III, INC, registered in the Public Registry on page 842257, Document 2661439, a provisional license for the construction and operation of a thermal power generation plant based on HFO # 6 (Bunker. ), called PROYECTO TERMICO IC MOTORES POWER-PACIFICO to be located in the district of Veracruz, Arraiján District, Province of Panama, with an installed capacity of 125 MW. "
