Panama: New Car Sales Up 5%

The growth trend in new car sales is being maintained, with 19,846 vehicles sold in the first four months of the year, 5% more than in the same period in 2014.

Showing an increase of 1,003 units, there is a marked expansion in the vehicle fleet. Regular cars, SUVs, minivans and trucks are pushing the figures up, according to the Comptroller General of the Republic.

Laestrella.com.pa confirms that "... bus sales have been curtalied, a figure which is negative with 435 versus 728 in the same period last year. This includes minibuses ... ".

On the other hand "... it appears that the trucks (small, medium and large) continue to be in demand, as 636 have been sold, about 116 more than in 2014 ...".

Panama: Car Sales Drop 13% up to July 2017

Between January and July of this year, 33,781 new vehicles were registered, 13% less than in the same period of 2016, reaffirming the downward trend that has been seen since the beginning of the year.

Figures from the Comptroller General's Office indicate that in July 4,494 new vehicles were registered, distributed as follows: 1,680 automobiles (-19% compared to the same period in 2016), 179 luxury vehicles (-5%), 1,528 SUVs (-6%), 60 minivans (-12%), 87 vans (-22%), 910 pickup trucks (-16%), 89 buses (-28%), 178 trucks (-13%) and 34 (5%) vehicles registered under the category 'Others'.

Panama: Auto Sales Still Decelerating

In the first quarter, 14,230 new vehicles were registered, 11% less than the 16 thousand registered in the same period last year.

Figures compiled by the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic indicate that in March there were 5,462 new vehicles, distributed as follows: 2,075 are automobiles, 219 are luxury cars, 1,853 are SUVs, 83 are minivans, 103 are vans, 777 are pick up trucks, 142 are buses, 181 are trucks and 29 are registered under the category 'Others'.

Guatemalans Prefer to Drive SUVs

Between January and November 2012 Guatemalan dealers sold 24,697 new cars, 18% more than in the same period in 2011.

After the stagnation in new vehicle sales as a result of the economic crisis, dealers predicted closing 2012 with a sales increase of 14%.

"According to statistics from the Association of Importers and Distributors of Motor Vehicles (AIDVA) between January and last November dealers sold 24,697 new cars, an increase of 18 percent compared to the 21,000 units sold during the same period in 2011.

Panamanians Bought 5416 Cars in October

In the first 10 months of 2011, 38,136 new cars were sold, 24% more than were sold in the same period last year.

Agencies now hope to achieve the goal of selling 44,000 new cars this year.

The highest monthly number of sales was reported in October, with a total of 5416 vehicles sold, boosted by the annual Panama Motor Show which took place during the month.
