Panama: Manufacturing Production Falls 3%

During the first three months of the year, the production volume index of manufacturing industries registered a decrease of 2.7% compared to the same period in 2017.

The Comptroller General of the Republic reported that " ... The behavior of the manufacturing industries observed through its integrated global indexes of volume, prices and value showed for the period January to March 2018, compared to the same period in the previous year, a decrease in production volumes in the order of 2.7%, and growth in their prices and value of 3.1% and 0.4%, respectively. "

The report adds that " ... At the level of the industrial division, the elaboration of food products and beverages, one of the most representative, showed a decrease of 1.6%, in their volumes, and growth in their prices and value of 4.2% and 2.5%, respectively, among the activities that influenced the decrease in the volumes processed, are those of Production of meat and meat products, Manufacture of dairy products, Manufacture of bakery products, Manufacture of sugar and Production of non-alcoholic beverages; bottled mineral water. "

"Likewise, the Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products recorded a decrease in volume of 4.6% and a 3.7% value, with growth in prices of 0.9%. In turn, the Manufacture of garments; tanned and dyed skins, reduced its volume, prices and value by 5.2%, 8.7% and 13.5%, respectively."

Manufacturing Activity Falls 4%

During January in the Dominican Republic the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity registered a 4% decrease with respect to the previous month, variation that is explained by a contraction in the volume of sales and production.

When comparing the figures with those reported at the end of 2019, an increase is registered, since in January the Monthly Index of Manufacturing Activity (IMAM) of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) increased to 62.5, while in November 2019 it was 53.2 and went up to 58.7 in December 2019.

In 2015 Panamanian industry fell by 2% in production volume and 1% in value, while product prices rose by 1.1% in the same period.

From a statement issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Census in Panama:

The behavior of manufacturing observed through its global integrated volume indices, prices and value, saw in the period January to December 2015, compared to the same period last year, declines in volume and value by the order of 2% and 0.9%, respectively, and price growth of 1.1%.
