Panama: Hospital del Niño to be Tendered in June

The government has announced that between April and May this year plans will be ready for the new Children's Hospital, and the tender for its construction and equipment will be published in June.

The tender to be announced in June this year includes the construction, equipment and operation of the hospital, which will have 65% more construction area than the original project, since according to the Ministry of Health, designs of critical areas have been improved and there is increased parking and areas for circulation. 

The project includes medical and non-medical equipment and furniture, as well as preventive and corrective maintenance for a period of three years. 

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Health:

Panama. Tuesday March 7, 2017. The Ministry of Health is making progress in the project to construct a new Child and Maternity Complex Hospital at Santo Tomas Hospital and wishes to communicates to citizens the following:  

1.  In 2013, during the previous administration, a tender took place in the turnkey format for the Project for a Study, Preliminary Design, Development of Plans and New Construction of the Children's Hospital".  The project was awarded and after a series of complaints, legal problems and challenges, in early 2014, the Ministry of Health decided to cancel the event.

Hospital Tender Delayed

The tender to build and equip the new Santo Tomás hospital in Panama, whose publication was originally scheduled for June this year, has still not been held.

An announcement has been made of the reactivation of the tender to build the Southern Regional Hospital, a work for which a $33 million loan was signed in 2012 with the government of South Korea.

The tender includes the construction of a new building and medical equipment, and is expected to start this month with earthworks which were tendered two months ago.

$459 million Hospital Complex Announced

March 2015

The Social Insurance Department in Guatemala is preparing a tender for the construction of the project "Health City", which includes the construction of four hospitals on 116 thousand square meters and which is valued at $459 million.

It is expected that in May the bidding process will start so that construction can start no later than October.
