Panama: Gold Leads Growth in Exports

In the first six months of the year the country exported $9.5 million more than it did in the same period in 2010.

According to the Controller's Office, total exports of gold last June was $54.4 million, compared with $33 million in the same period in 2010. Gold exports have been rising month on month, from $8 million in April 2011 to $11 million in June 2011.

"This growth in exports is also due to shipments of bananas to markets like the U.S. and Europe.

This crop, in the first six months of the year, raised $43,267,000, after having earned $33 million in the same period in 2010 ", reported Panamaamerica.com.pa

Salvadoran Exports Up 5.6%

During the first six months of 2013 foreign sales totaled $2.822 billion, $151 million more than in the same period in 2012.

From a press release issued by the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador:

Total exports to June of this year amounted to $2822.2 million, up $150.6 million compared to the same period in 2012, the growth rate was 5.6% per year, with a gradual recovering its dynamism, informed the Office of Economic Studies and Statistics of the Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador.

Guatemala: 75% Increase in Amount of Minerals Exported

Due to the rising prices of gold and silver, the amount exported in the first quarter increased from $100 million in 2010 to $177 million in 2011.

The upward trend in exports was already reflected last year in 2010, when they showed an increase of 52% in monetary terms in relation to 2009.

In the first three months of 2011 sales totaled $27.6 million, compared to $1.9 million in the same period in 2010.

Three years after signing the free trade agreement between the two countries, sales of Salvadoran products to China have exceeded all expectations.

In comparison between the first quarter of 2011 and the same period of 2010, sales to Taiwan have increased by over 1000%.

Panamanian Gold Exports Shoot Up

Gold exports have increased from 5,749 ounces in the first half of 2009 to 33,369 in the same period of this year.

According to information from the National Comptroller's Office, income from gold exports increased from $1.5m to $23.8m.

"Experts and the Panamanian Mining Chamber say that the figures are entirely due to the beginning of Petaquilla's operations in Colón, which will already be generating royalties for the government, though not everyone agrees with the project," reports Pa-digital.com.pa.
