Panama: Economic Situation Report - January 2015

In the first month of the year, the economy grew by 5.8%, driven mainly by the sectors of fisheries, transport, storage and communications and construction.

From a report issued by the Comptroller General of the Republic:

The Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) in the Republic, up to January 2015, measured in terms of the original series in 1996, saw prices grow by 5.8% compared to the same period in 2014.

All categories of economic activity showed positive behaviors. The sectors with the best performance were: fisheries, transport, storage and communications, construction, mining and quarrying, financial intermediation, hotels and restaurants, electricity and water, community, social and personal service activities and trade.

During 2018, the constant Gross Domestic Product totaled $41,693 million, almost 4% more than what was reported in 2017, a rise that is partly explained by the behavior of the commercial sector.

During 2018, the behavior of economic activities related to the external sector highlighted the Panama Canal, the Colon Free Zone and financial intermediation, reported the Office of the General Comptroller of the Republic.

During the second quarter of 2018 the constant Gross Domestic Product totaled $10,084 million, 3% more than was reported in the same period in 2017.

The activities related to the domestic economy that performed positively in this quarter were: transport and communications, financial intermediation, trade, government services, health and education. On the other hand, construction activities, mines and quarries, hotels and restaurants, other community and personal activities presented negative behavior, informed the Comptroller General of the Republic.

Honduras: Economic Situation - June 2015

In June, the economy registered a growth of 3.6%, driven by the financial sector, insurance and pension funds.

From a statement issued by Banco Central de Honduras:

According to the original series of the Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) in June 2015, the Honduran economy grew by 3.6%, higher than in the same period in 2014 (2.7%), being influenced b the following activities: Financial Intermediation, Insurance and Pension Funds; Post and Telecommunications; Manufacturing Industry; Trade; Transport and Storage; and Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Activities linked to the external sectors such as ports, air transport, financial, tourism, Canal services, and banana, melon and watermelon exports were the most dynamic.

The National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) has estimated figures for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices and the total measurement at 2007 prices, by economic activity for the year 2014.
