Transport, construction, and exploitation of mines and quarries, were the sectors that contributed the most to the interannual variation of 4.19% registered up to November 2017.

From a report compiled by the General Comptroller of the Republic:

The Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) in the Republic, for the accumulated period of January - November 2017, grew by 5.31%, compared to the same period in 2016. 

The categories of economic activity that showed favorable performances were: transport, storage and communications (including the canal, ports and aviation), construction, mining and quarrying, electricity and water, and public administration. 

Other branches that showed a positive impact, but at a lower rate, were the manufacturing industry, legal services, private education, community activities (including casinos and games of chance), hotels and restaurants, and agricultural and livestock. 

On the other hand, private health and fishing registered decreases.  The interannual monthly variation of November 2017, compared to the same month in 2016, was 4.19%.

Between January and May, the monthly index of economic activity varied by 6.49% with respect to the same period in 2016, mainly due to the activities of construction and exploitation of mines and quarries.
