Panama: Economic Activity Up 4.6%

The economic activity index recorded an annual increase of 4.6% in November, mainly due to the activities of Trade and Transport and communications.

From a report issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Census:

The Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) in the Republic for January-November 2016, measured in terms of the original series in 1996 prices, grew by 4.42 percent compared to the same period in 2015.

During that period, it was observed that the categories of economic activity which performed favorably were those of: trade, transport, storage and communications, financial, agricultural brokerage, construction, electricity and water, hotels and restaurants; mining and quarrying. The other activities achieved a favorable effect, but at a slower pace, with the exception of manufacturing, community activities and fishing which showed a decline.

The economic activity index registered an annual increase of 4% due to the activity in the categories of Electricity and Water, Construction, and Mining and Quarrying.

From a statement issued by the National Statistics Institute:

The Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) in the Republic for January-September 2016, measured in terms of the original series in 1996 prices, grew by 4.10 percent compared to the same period in 2014.

In the first half of the year the monthly economic activity index recorded a rise of 4.1%, driven by the performance of mining and construction.

From a statement issued by the National Statistics Institute:

The Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE by its initials in Spanich) in the Republic for January-July 2016, measured in terms of the original series at 1996 prices, grew by 4.13 percent compared to the same period in 2015. The categories of economic activity that showed positive levels for the aforementioned period were: mining and quarrying, construction, electricity and water, transport, storage and communications, public administration, hotels and restaurants.

Up to November, economic activity grew by 4.09% yoy, driven by the electricity and water sectors, transport, storage and communications, construction, and financial intermediation.

The Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) in the Republic for January-November 2015, measured in terms of the original series in 1996 prices, grew by 4.09% compared to the same period in 2014.

Panama: Economic Situation in September 2015

November 2015

Between January and September the economy grew by 4% compared to the same period in 2014, driven by the sectors of transport, storage and communications, and electricity and water.

From a statement issued by the General Comptroller of the Republic of Panama:

The Monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE) in the Republic for January-September 2015, measured in terms of the original series in 1996 prices, grew by 4.03 percent compared to the same period in 2014.
