Panama: Documents Approved for Thermal Energy Tender
The National Authority of Public Services has approved a proposal for a tender submitted by the Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica to contract out 200 MW.

From a resolution issued by the National Authority of Public Services (ASEP)
CONSIDERING:
"... those who can take part are " ... proponents who demonstrate through ASEP certification that they are carrying out the formalities for applying for a license for generation or capacity expansion of a current license. "
Resolved to:
"...FIRST: APPROVE the tender document submitted by the Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica, S.A. (ETESA) for the Competitive Concurrency Act ETESA ICB No. 04-14, for hiring Short Term Single Power Supply, exclusively with Thermoelectric Generation Power Plants, for the period of January 1, 2015 until June 30, 2020, which addresses the requirements of the Company Distribución Eléctrica Metro-Oeste, S.A., la Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Chiriquí, S.A. and Elektra Noreste, S.A., which is included as Annex A to this Resolution, and that is an integral part of it.
The Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica (Etesa) must publish details of the tender on its website.
After suspending two power supply contracts with Bocas del Toro Energía and Coal Power, Etesa has announced that before the end of the year it will hire other generators to supply the 300 MW.
The contract with Bocas del Toro Energía, which included the Brazilian company Odebrecht, was canceled by mutual agreement, after the revelation of the corruption scandals in which the Brazilian company was involved.This energy supply contract was for 150 MW and the project had not yet started development.
Suspension has been announced of the tender process 02-14 by the Electricity Transmission Company for a contract for thermoelectric power for the period January 2017 to December 31, 2031.

The documents for the tender involving investments of hundreds of millions of dollars underwent significant changes at the last minute.
"This is one of the largest businesses in the energy industry in Panama: a contract that involves the construction of a plant which may require an investment of over one billion dollars, and through which energy will be provided for the period from March 2017 to February 2036," reported Prensa.com.
