Panama: Car Sales up 25% in February

In the first two months of 2013 automakers sold 10% more cars than in the same period of 2012.

During January and February 2013, 7994 units were sold in Panama, or 755 more vehicles than were sold in the same period of 2012, equivalent to a growth of 10%.

These figures were reported by the Automobile Dealers Association of Panama (ADAP), which groups together more than 51 car brands which are distributed around the country.

"In sales by brand, in February Hyundai was back on the list of the top 10, followed by Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Suzuki, Honda, Chevrolet, Ford, Isuzu and BMW", reported Prensa.com.

Panama: Car Sales Up 17% in July

Between January and July 2013 car dealerships sold 31,745 new cars while in the same period of 2012 the figure was 27,142.

The statistics were supplied by the Automobile Dealers Association of Panama (ADAP). During the first months of 2013 more than 4,603 cars were sold than in the same period in 2012.

Colon Free Zone Sells 17% More in Panama

In February, sales at the Colon Free Zone (ZLC) were 17% higher than the same period of 2009.

Leopoldo Benedetti, CEO of the ZLC, explained that these figures are also better than February 2008 and 2007.

He stated that ZLC management has introduced new incentives for investors, as they now receive adequate information to decide future investments.

Despite Crisis Grupo Melo Increases Sales

The Panamanian conglomerate reported sales of $60.9 million for the first quarter of 2009, 4.8% more than the same period in 2008.

The Poultry Farms and Restaurant divisions were those which reported increases in their sales, not the real estate division.

Reporter Edith Castill Duarte writes in her article for Prensa.com: “Grupo Melo is advancing its plans to go into Colombia in the restaurant industry with its chain Pío Pío, and hopes to formalize the plans by the end of the year. The vice-president of finances, planning and treasury, Eduardo Jaspe, said that the division is operating within budget, and that they are in the process of opening seven new restaurants for the local market in distinct points throughout the city.”
