Panama Canal dredging tender to be published late this year

Bids for a contract to dredge the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal will be invited in the last quarter of this year.

The contract for dredging the Pacific entrance has already been awarded to Belgium-based Dredging International, with a bid of US$177.5 million.

Canal Locks to Come From Italy

The Italian company Cimolai will manufacture the gates for the new Panama Canal locks.

The 16 twenty eight foot gates that make up the locks of the new Panama Canal will be built by an Italian company that was subcontracted by Grupo Unidos por el Canal, led by the Spanish company Sacyr Vallehermoso.

PCA Awards $267 Million Dry Excavation Contract

The consortium FCC-ICA-MECO won the second-largest contract of the Panama Canal expansion project.

This contract comprises excavating a 6.1 kilometer waterway that will connect the third set of locks with the Culebra Cut.

From Prensa.com: "FCC-ICA-MECO submitted the lowest priced offer in the bidding process ($267.798.795), and complied with the requirements imposed by the Panama Canal Authority".

Canal Excavation Bidding Extended

December 2009

The Panama Canal Authority pushed to December 22nd the deadline for the fourth dry excavation phase.

The original date was December 10th, at 1 pm.

"The decision was taken by the Office of Acquisitions of the Panama Canal Authority", reported Laestrella.com.pa. "This contract is part of the construction of the Pacific Access Waterway, which will connect the new set of locks with the Culebra Cut".

Canal Expansion from Within
