Panama: Cable Car for San Miguelito

Authorities unveiled a proposed $50 million, 3 kilometer cable car transportation project in San Miguelito.

The route will span from Samaria to Samaria Piedra, going through Sinaí, Don Bosco and Río Palomo.

Representative Raún Pineda, who presented the project, stated that it "could be financed using the $1 billion credit line granted by Brazil", reports newspaper La Estrella.

The Municipality of Guatemala claims to have the permits to use the airspace in streets of the capital and Mixco, and needs an endorsement from the CIV before the route to be used can be decided.

Although last November it was indicated that at the end of that month the specifications would be published to grant in concession the construction and operation of the cable car or aerometer, some procedures and permits have yet to be completed in order to proceed with the tender process.

$22.5 Million Cable Car in Guatemala

Local authorities and private companies are to invest in the construction of a aerial tramway to the crater of the "Volcán de Agua" volcano.

The work is due to begin next January with the cable car seeking to connect the community of Santa María de Jesús with the crater of the perfectly shaped conical volcano, Volcán de Agua, where a hotel will also be built.
