Panama Awards Marketplaces Design Contract

Spanish company Mercsa will study, design and provide technical assistance for the construction for 8 public marketplaces.

An important component of the Cold Chain Project, these marketplaces will be located in David, Colón, Santiago, Penonomé, Chitré, Las Tablas, Panamá and Chorrera.

Jimmy Papadimitriu, minister of the presidency, noted that “the evaluation committee decided to award this contract to Mercasa, as it presented the best technical proposal and has vast experience in these matters”.

Panama Tenders Cold Chain Logistics System for $90 million

The Ministry of the Presidency is putting out to tender the design, construction and implementation of an integrated cold chain logistics system.

The purpose of the contract is to modernize the current system of collection and distribution of perishable food products in both production and consumption areas in the country.

Tender rules are posted at the web portal and the target date for submission of proposals is March 2nd, 2011.

This facility in David, which will have a market area of 20 thousand people and will benefit about 200 retailers in the zone, is part of the innovative project the government is pushing of building public markets.

Panama Invites Bids for Designing 8 Public Marketplaces

The Cold Chain Secretary reported that in May 5th they will conduct a standardization meeting and on May 20th they will receive the proposals.

After this, the government will put out to tender the construction of these public marketplaces, in 8 separate processes, one for each marketplace.

The company hired to assess the nations’ agricultural production will deliver its report on June 4.

Such report will detail how much of each good is sown in every region of the country, and will be a key supply for writing the bidding rules for selecting the company that will develop, build and manage the project.
