Panama: Annual Inflation to June Down to 2.3%

In June, the consumer price index rose by 0.5% compared to the previous month, with the divisions of food and beverages, health, clothing and footwear, and transport having the largest growth.

From a statement issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Panama:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June, compared with May 2014, rose by
0.5 percent for both the National Urban area and for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito and Other Urban areas. Compared with June 2013, an increase of 3.4 percent in the National Urban area was observed; 3.3 percent in the districts of Panama and San Miguelito and 3.5 percent in the Other Urban areas. So far this year, the National Urban CPI showed a cumulative increase of 2.3 percent.

The divisions that showed the greatest increase in National Urban CPI for June were:
Food and beverages 0.9 percent, due to an increase in the price of soft drinks; Health 0.5 percent, due to an increase in the price of medical services and non-hospital paramedics; Clothing and footwear 0.4 per cent as a result of increased prices of children's sweaters; Transport and Recreation and cultural services 0.3 percent, due to an increase in the price of gasoline and tour packages, respectively. In contrast, Miscellaneous goods and services went down by 0.1 percent, driven by the decline in the prices of jewelery and watches.

In March the consumer price index rose by 0.4% from February, with the Health, Transport and Food and Beverage segments increasing the most.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in March compared to February 2014 showed an increase of 0.4 percent in the National Urban area, 0.3 percent for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito and 0.6 percent in the Other Urban areas. Compared with March 2013, an increase of 3.3 percent in both the National Urban and the districts of Panama and San Miguelito and 3.7 percent in the Other Urban was observed. So far this year, the National Urban CPI showed a cumulative increase of 1.1 percent.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October compared to September 2013 showed an increase of 0.1 %.

Comments on the Consumer Price Index National Urban in October 2013:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October, compared to September 2013, showed an increase of 0.1 % in national urban and 0.2 % for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito, while for Other Urban Areas there was a decrease of 0.1%. Compared to October 2012, there was an increase of 3.9 % for National Urban, and for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito and the Other Urban Areas. So far this year, National Urban CPI shows a cumulative variation of 3.4 %.

Panama: Interannual Inflation to July is 6%

With respect to the previous month, the Consumer Price Index in July 2012 showed an increase of 0.3 percent.

A statement from the National Institute of Statistics and Census reads:

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July 2012 registered an increase of 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, both for the National Urban area and for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito, and other urban areas.

Panama: Inflation at 6.5% in June

July 2011

The recording is the highest in the last two years as a result of rising prices for transportation, food and beverages.

The change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June compared to May 2011 showed an increase in the National Urban of 0.1 percent and Other Urban 0.8 percent, and for the districts of Panama and San Miguelito a decrease of 0.1 percent.
