With an initial investment of $2 million the processing plant producing cassava-based ethanol will begin operations next week, as indicated by representatives of Agro 2, which owns the plant.

An article in Prensa.com states: "The company also produces finished cassava (also known as ‘yuca’) products for local markets and for export."

Ecuadoran Nobis Consortium, announced plans to invest $ 200 million to produce ethanol in Costa Rica and Peru.

The company, based in Guayaquil, said it would seek to exploit the free trade agreements signed between these countries and the United States.

The final decision would be made in June.

Caribbean Bio Energy and the National Port Company agreed to the installation of an ethanol plant in the port of Castilla.

During the first year of operation, the raw material (sugarcane) will be brought from Brazil.

The plant will have a production capacity of one million gallons of ethanol annually, of which 35% will be sold in the country.
