Panama: $2.4 million Investment in Agribusiness

An announcement has been made of the start of construction of a plant for drying and storage of horticultural products in Nata, Cocle province.

The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) will begin construction of the project which must have "... A facility for the receipt, sorting, bagging, drying and storage of onions, two buildings for protected crops, a building for offices, along with equipment and staff training. "

Minister of the MIDA, Jorge Arango, told Panamaon.com that "... this plant is expected to drastically reduce the waste affecting onion farmers in the Nata area, which will be of great benefit to them as they will have a better performance. "

'... According to the contract, after the signing of the order to proceed the work must be completed within a period of 360 days.

Tender for Onion Drying Plant

With an investment of nearly a million dollars the Panamanian government will build a plant for drying onions in Nata, Panama.

The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA in Spanish) is awaiting approval by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) to initiate the bidding process and construction of the project, according to an article in PanamaAmerica.com.pa.

Later this month construction will begin on a plant for drying and storing onions in the municipality of Güinope, El Paraíso.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG), Jacobo Regalado, also announced the planned construction of another plant in the department of Ocotepequeuna.
