Panama: 21,000 New Jobs for 2014

A study by the Labor Ministry concluded that the economy will generate 21,000 new jobs in the next four years.

The two main areas will be the Panama Canal Expansion and the Howard special economic area (Panama Pacifico).

"Last week, President Ricardo Martinelli stated that Howard would generate 25,000 jobs", noted Prensa.com.

The study also revealed that outside of the provinces of Panama and Colon, most people work in industries related to agriculture and livestock breeding.

Henry Kardonski is the CEO of London & Regional Panamá, developer of the project. He assured that by the end of 2009, over $100 million will be invested, 15% of the targeted $705 million.

Work on the industrial business park is expected to be finished this month, with 10.000 m2 of office space and 21.000 m2 of warehouses.

Labor Contracts in Panama Increase

As reported by the Department of Labor, in January of 2009, 20,573 new contracts were registered, 21.7% more than the same period of year 2008.

Orlando Carpintero writes in Prensa.com: "The growth was seen in the three types of contracts for which records are kept: For specific projects, there were 2,540 new contracts more than in January of 2008; for defined time frame contracts, 269 more; and, in the open contracts segment, 859 more."
