Panama: $17 million for Medical Products

The government will allocate resources for the purchase of medicinal and pharmaceutical products, laboratory supplies, medical surgical instruments, and X-ray equipment, among other things.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance:

An Additional Supplementary Credit to the General State Budget for the fiscal year 2018, was approved at an ordinary meeting of the National Economic Council, with allocation in favor of the National Oncology Institute and the Santo Tomás Hospital, up to the sum of 16,846,685 balboas, of which about 6 million 596 thousand 74 balboas will correspond to the National Oncology Institute and 10 million 250 thousand 611 balboas to the Santo Tomas Hospital in order to ensure the availability of medicines and supplies.

The important investment for both hospitals, will be used primarily to supply them with medicinal and pharmaceutical products, laboratory supplies, medical surgical instruments, X-ray equipment, medical and sanitary equipment, industrial gases, among other items that will prevent shortages.

The fundamental purpose of these highly technical hospitals is to provide good medical, social and family care to the entire Panamanian population, attending these hospitals are patients referred from regional hospitals to receive medical surgical services after hospitalization or at outpatient clinics, and people affected by complex pathologies that require specialized care.

Panama Invites Bids for Supplying $7 Million in Medical Equipment

The Ministry of Health invited companies to bid for the purchase of medical equipment for the Santo Tomas Hospital and the Children's Hospital.

The purchase is part of the plan to upgrade the hospital´s technology, and includes refurbishment, adaptation and installation of new equipment for the two hospitals. Santo Tomás Hospital is the main trauma center in the country.
