Panama: $130 Million for 'Prison City'

Some of the money needed for its construction will be obtained by selling two existing penitentiaries.

Thursday, July 30, 2009

"El Renacer" and the female rehabilitation center "Cecilia de Chiari" would be sold, but there is no estimated value for them.

José Raúl Mulino, Government and Justice Minister, said that "'El Renacer' extends for 16 hectares, and its location suggests it could become an important development center, due to its proximity to the Panama Canal. ... The female center occupies 10.000 square meters of construction, mostly industrial structures. It has access to the main road, as well as areas for expansion and enlargement."
